I began my first year in Drury's Student Government Association (SGA) as an intern, selected by the Executive Council of the 2018-2019 General Assembly (GA). As an intern, my job was to learn the ins and outs of SGA, including the complexities of Robert's Rules of Order. Additionally, I grew in confidence as I continued to speak out at meetings, fighting for the Freshman class.
In November and December of 2018, my internship ended, and I was subsequently elected as a Freshman Class Senator for the remainder of the 2018-2019 term. I immediately joined the Academic Affairs (that later became the Institutional Affairs) Committee and volunteered to be a critical member of the Constitution Committee which began the process of updating the SGA Constitution.
In the Spring of 2019, the Constitution Committee presented the Constitution to both the GA and Student Body, where it was subsequently passed into effect. Additionally, I participated in the Springfield Leadership Conference, engaging with leaders from the Springfield community and student leaders from Missouri State and Evangel. Towards the end of the semester, I began to look into what accommodations could be made in order to best assist Drury's students with disabilities.
In April of 2019, I was fortunate to be reelected as one of the six Sophomore Class Senators. My plan for this upcoming year is to take the tools and information that I was given within SGA to fight for better accommodations for students with disabilities in tandem with the Drury Counseling and Disability Support Office.
